Kyma
Behind the walls of an unpretentious, white-painted brick building with dark wood-trimmed windows on Piedmont Road in Buckhead, Greek fans from across the globe crave the extraordinary Greek seafood cuisine at Kyma, a modern Greek restaurant in a class by itself right here in Buckhead. One of twelve members of the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, the Kyma Greek restaurant situates itself across the street from the Corner Café and Buckhead Bread and next to Buckhead Diner, fellow restaurant group members.

After valet parks the cars, Buckhead diners proceed inside the restaurant through a grand entryway flanked with two swelling solid white marble columns reaching up sixteen feet and weighing nearly thirty tons. Designer Bill Johnson melds decadence and simplicity inside this spectacular Greek restaurant in Buckhead. Kyma achieves a subdued, classy ambience that harkens back to Greek culture with a unique fisherman’s light chandelier, a mosaic mural of blue and white broken plates, and a stunning display on the deep sea blue painted ceiling dappled with twinkling pinhole lights to impress a starry Mediterranean night sky on Buckhead onlookers just walking into the restaurant.

Just past the hostess stand where Buckhead customers to Kyma Greek restaurant are warmly greeted and promptly sat, a colonnade lines the white marble floors of the restaurant ending in a cascading fountain waterfall where a marble display case contains whole fresh fish that arrive to the restaurant daily from the Mediterranean sea. Thin white curtains provide a rippling visual barrier between the entryway and the dining area of the restaurant where Buckhead couples, families and friends enjoy delectable plates of mezedekia, or assorted Greek appetizers that are typically shared among a group over a glass of ice cold Ouzo, an anise-flavored Greek liquer, before the main entrees arrive to the table. Mezedes include Htipiti, a roasted red Holland pepper puree with feta and Taramosalata, a customary Greek mousse of red caviar.

Chef Pano I. Karatassos has developed a menu for Kyma that pays tribute to the simplicity of French culinary fundamentals while staying true to the flavorful spices and finessed acidity used in Greek cuisine. Buckhead diners select five from sixteen Greek dishes to create affordable and delectable combination platters from grape-vine leaves stuffed with fennel, leeks, pine nuts, currants and rice to the local favorite woodgrilled octopus with red onions, oil and red wine vinegar. Other customers enjoy nearly a dozen different varieties of fish and crustaceans that come off the wood grill to plates with all but their bones still in tact. The staff at Kyma is knowledgeable of the menu items and wines served in their Greek restaurant and recommended sharing side orders with two.
