Through out history, jewelry has always been associated with the rich, the powerful and the beautiful. Antique jewelry then is very desirable and valuable because they imbibe the decadence, sophistication, and uniqueness that comes with the jewelry's history and rarity.

Pieces of antique jewelry are normally more expensive than brand new ones. One reason is the fact than when you wear a piece of antique jewelry, there is that guarantee that you are not likely to come across someone in the street that is wearing a piece of jewelry like yours. There is only a limited number of available antique jewelry, older ones are naturally harder to find. Part of antique jewelry's attractiveness is its rarity—its promise of exclusiveness and uniqueness. The availability of certain kinds of gemstones also differ from place to place. The three most popular gemstones that are used to decorate antique jewelry are sapphires, rubies and emeralds. Even before, diamonds are very rare and thus, very expensive. Many pieces of antiques jewelry with diamonds were made only for royalty and the very rich.

The antique engagement ring is also something any girl dreams of receiving one day. Antique rings can be bought in antique jewelry stores, but there are those few men who present their fiancés with antique heirlooms. These antique pieces of jewelry that have been passed down from generation to generation add a romantic and special quality to the piece. Aside from rings, there are also heirloom necklaces and even crowns.

So why buy a brand new ring or necklace when the jewelry of yesterday is available today.
